Solar by day. Stored for the evening.

Yarranlea Solar Farm is an operating 120 MWp solar farm near Pittsworth on Queensland’s Darling Downs. A 60 MW / 240 MWh battery will add 4 hours of storage.

About the project

A working solar farm, ready for storage.

Yarranlea Solar Farm was one of Risen Energy Australia’s first utility-scale projects and has been sending clean energy into the Queensland grid since it was completed.

The next step is a 60 MW / 240 MWh battery built within the existing site. Pairing the two creates a solar and storage hybrid that can keep supplying renewable power after the sun goes down.

How it works

Sunshine you can use after sunset

Solar farms produce the most when demand is lowest. A battery moves that energy into the evening, when homes and businesses need it most.

  1. Step 1

    Generate by day

The solar farm’s 120 MWp of panels turn Darling Downs sunshine into electricity for the grid.

  2. Step 2

    Store the surplus

Around midday, when solar output is high, the 60 MW battery charges instead of letting that energy go unused.

  3. Step 3

    Supply after dark

In the evening peak and after sunset it releases up to 240 MWh, about 4 hours at full power.

Location

On the Darling Downs, near Pittsworth

Yarranlea Solar Farm is in farming country beside the small locality of Yarranlea, west of Pittsworth on Queensland’s Darling Downs. The site sits north of the Gore Highway. The battery will be built within the existing solar farm.

Progress

Where the battery is up to

The solar farm is already operating. Four steps bring the battery online. Two are complete.

  1. Land secured

    Complete

The battery sits within the existing solar farm site.

  2. Development approval

    Complete

Development approval for the battery has been granted.

  3. Grid connection

    In progress

The grid connection package is ready for submission.

  4. Construction

    Upcoming

Battery construction follows grid connection approval.

Community engagement

Connecting with our local community

We recognise the importance of keeping the local community informed and providing opportunities for dialogue. As Yarranlea Solar progresses, we aim to share relevant updates, listen to local perspectives and explore opportunities to support the surrounding region.
